Walkers and Ramblers

Discover The South West Coast Path

Hotel De La Mer is the perfect place to stay for walkers and ramblers.  The stunning scenery and rock formations around the area are a magnet for those who enjoy dramatic coastlines and the great outdoors.

Hotel De La Mer is situated just yards from the South West Coast Path - see www.southwestcoastpath.com and is also within the local Geopark.

Geoparks are areas that aim to protect geo-diversity and promote geological heritage to the general public as well as support sustainable economic development of the area, primarily through the development of geological tourism.  For more information on Geoparks go to: www.englishrivierageopark.org.uk

There are walks for all abilities and requirements with many books and publications available to buy.  But if you go to www.devon.gov.uk/ddwalking.pdf  you can download a free guide to walking in Devon published by Devon County Council.

Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust is another great source of information and inspiration. The Trust is a local, independent charity dedicated to looking after some of Torbay's most important wildlife and heritage sites.  Its aims are to protect land, conserve nature and strengthen the bonds between the people and the natural world of Torbay.  There are various sites to visit around the area and you can find out more about them at  www.countryside-trust.org.uk

We have lots of leaflets at the hotel and we know our surroundings pretty well so are more than happy to point you in the right direction, whatever kind of walk you're after.

A few particularly popular local routes are:

Maidencombe to Torquay Marina - approx 7 miles

Brixham to Babbacombe - 13.2 miles

Babbacombe to Exmouth - 14.4 miles

The Royal Geographical Society has recently added a new walk to its repertoire.  Called Coves and Cliffs, it meanders around the Babbacombe coastline. This is what they say about it:
Explore a dramatic coastline of steep cliffs and hidden coves.  Discover evidence of the powerful forces of nature. Uncover the stories of an ever-changing landscape where a red cliff collapsed into the sea, white cliffs were blasted apart and an unusual railway climbs the coast. http://www.discoveringbritain.org/walks/region/south-west-england/babbacombe.html

Another great source of interesting walks is: www.walk4life.info

You simply put a postcode into their search box -  (use TQ1 3SJ for Hotel De La Mer) and you'll see how many interesting trails there are around the area.  Not just on the coast path but taking in various sites within the Bay.

We guarantee you'll find walks to suit you - however much you want to exert yourselves.

We'll give you a great breakfast to start you off and a delicious home made meal when you return, making Hotel De La Mer the perfect place to stay.
